The topic of the art readings "Ukrainian symbolism in the
still lifes of country artists" was not chosen by chance. In the
conditions of a full-scale war, Ukraine itself became a symbol of
indomitability and struggle for freedom for the entire civilized world.
And the treasury of Ukrainian symbols was replenished with new symbols
of stability, heroic resistance, courage, care, respect and love. We
hold on to them, remember them during air raid sirens, create memes. And
it is they who give us confidence in the Victory of Ukraine.
Ukrainian art is filled with symbols that from generation to
generation became a form of language that conveyed information important
for the well-being of people and their coexistence with the surrounding
world. Ukrainian symbolism combines pagan and Christian elements that
create a synthesis expressed in the national worldview, customs,
traditions, folklore, and art. Thanks to ancient symbols and charms, the
Ukrainian people preserve their ancestral memory, history, and culture.
"Despite the powerful globalization trends that have become
dominant in intercultural relationships since the second half of the
20th century and significantly affect the development of modern art,
which is largely becoming unified, standardized and devoid of
ethno-national features, Ukrainian visual practice, aware of its
European belonging, to a large extent retains its powerful symbolic
basis, which is determined by the peculiarities of Ukrainian culture", -
notes the well-known Ukrainian art critic, member of the National Union
of Artists of Ukraine, associate professor of the Department of Ethics,
Aesthetics and Cultural Studies of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National
University, doctor of philosophy Svitlana Stoian in in her scientific
article "Symbolism in the Ukrainian fine art of the 21st century in the
context of culture". |
