On October 16, 2020, a personal
exhibition of works of the famous Kropyvnytskyi artist, Merited Artist of Ukraine Serhii
Shapovalov and a catalog “Pictorial impromptu of Serhii Shapovalov” was presented in
O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum. The event was held within the museum project “In an
artist’s studio” to Artist Day. The project is aimed at popularization of creative
work of Ukrainian artists and presupposes organization of personal exhibitions and
publication of catalogs with the interview and contemplations of artists about art and
life, reproductions of works, which brightly represent their creative search.
Due to the temporary restriction on mass cultural events since October
9, 2020, the vernissage was held involving the artist, the museum staff, and the press.
Shapovalov Serhii Havrylovych (born 1943) – Merited
Artist of Ukraine (2008), a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1989), a
laureate of the Regional Award in Fine Art and Study of Art named after Oleksandr Osmerkin
in the nomination “national tradition” (2006), and the Municipal Art Award named after
Borys Vintenko (2020). A participant of town, regional, all-Ukrainian, and international
art exhibitions. The works are kept in the art museums and private collections in Ukraine
and abroad.
The exhibition consists of more than 30 paintings of different years
starting from 1969, when the artist was a freshman of Kyiv Art Institute, and till the
present, created just before the exhibition. The majority is exhibited for the first time.
The exposition is completed with colored photos made by a famous
photographer, a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Oleksandr Shuleshko
from the series “Serhii Shapovalov’s Studio”.
The museum director Vita Chernova congratulated Merited Artist of
Ukraine Serhii Shapovalov on the opening of a personal exhibition and on behalf of the
staff presented him a souvenir cup with the image of the artist’s painting from the
museum collection “Autumn Colors” (2011). The artist was also congratulated by the
leading researcher of the museum, Merited Artist of Ukraine Andrii Nadezhdin, the chief
curator of the Museum of Musical Culture named after Karol Szymanowski Olena Klasova, the
younger brother of the artist, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine
Anatolii Shapovalov, and a press photographer of the local periodical “Vechirnia Hazeta”
Oleksandr Shuleshko.
Suring the presentation of the exhibition, Merited Artist of Ukraine
SerhiiShapovalov told the story of creation of some works that were exhibited for the
first time. Also, he improvised on the memorial grand piano; the artist can play many
musical instruments.
At the end of the event, everyone present took a photo with Merited
Artist of Ukraine Serhii Shapovalov outside the museum. |
