Lectures on Art History
“The Town of Kropyvnytskyi in the Artists’ Works”

On November 22, 2019, O.O.Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum hosted traditional “Lectures on Art History to the anniversary of O.O.Osmerkin” on the theme “The town of Kropyvnytskyi in the artists’ works” dedicated to the 265th anniversary of the town foundation.
The major participants of this year’s lectures were students of the Art and Graphic Art Subdepartment of the Department of Arts of Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Vynnychenko. Under the supervision of their lecturers Ph.D. in Art history Olena Kyrychenko, Ph.D. in Pedagogics Larysa Harbuzenko, and senior lecturer Larysa Kulinich, the students prepared reports and presentations on the reproduction of amazing town landscapes in the creative work of talented artists from Kropyvnytskyi – Merited Artists of Ukraine Serhii Shapovalov and Anatolii Yaniev, Merited Cultural Worker of Ukraine Leonid Bondar, members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Oleksandr Lohvyniyk, Anatolii Shapovalov, and Oleksandr Demydenko, and also the artists of the older generation Volodymyr Fedorov, and of course, Oleksandr Osmerkin, and a painter from Chernihiv, Merited Artist of Ukraine Leonid Zaborovskyi, who created a lot of compositions of the architectural gems of the historical center of the town during the plein-air within the National Festival “Kropyvnytskyi”. Everyone was fascinated by the report of the student Liubomyr Dotsenko about the outstanding artist, member of the National Union of Folk Art Artists of Ukraine Andrii Lipatov. Historical Yelisavethrad as if comes to live in his works.
Students of Kropyvnytskyi Institute Private Higher Educational Institution “University of Modern Knowledge” joined this year’s lectures for the first time. A very interesting report was made by the Master degree student Anna Liashenko about Merited Artist of Ukraine, laureate of Shevchenko’s Award Hryhorii Synytsia, who was raised in the orphanage in our town and later got his first art education at the Art and Industrial School that existed at the beginning of the 1930s.
It is pleasant to notice, that lectures in Osmerkin Museum not only become more popular each year but also more scientific - lecturers participate in them more often. Except for the constant speaker, lecturer of the College of Construction, a member of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine Tetiana Peniaz, a famous scientific worker, Cand. Sc. History, assistant professor of the Subdepartment of Social Sciences and Document Science of Central Ukrainian National Technical University, a member of Ukrainian Heraldry Society Mykola Tupchiienko also took part in the event. In his report “Mythological world of the paintings by Vadym Medianyk”, the scientist suggested an unusual philosophical understanding of the creative work of a modern artist from Kropyvnytskyi.
A presentation “The building of Oleksandr Osmerkin Museum in the artistic images” was a highlight of the event. It was presented by the leading researcher of the museum, a professional art historian, Merited Artist of Ukraine Andrii Nadezhdin. And it is not a coincidence. First of all, an architectural creation of a talented architect Yakiv Pauchenko often becomes a creative object for artists. Secondly, this year, the museum celebrates the 25th anniversary of the museum opening for the visitors.
Ph.D. in Art history Olena Kyrychenko addressed the audience with the closing speech. She mentioned that participation in such educational projects encourages students to conduct scientific researches on studying and popularization the history of the art of our town and region. She expressed hopes that the number of participants in the next jubilee lectures will increase. The leading researcher of the museum Andrii Nadezhdin mentioned that the reports and presentations were incredibly interesting and prepared on a high scientific level. He presented the authors with an information and travel guide catalog “1-2-3 days in Kropyvnytskyi”, which was published this year by the Printing and Publishing Center TOV “Imeks-LTD” to the town anniversary within the municipal program of the development of culture and tourism. It will be an assistant in studying the history of the town, its architectural monuments that are often reproduced in the paintings.
